Population Growth Visualization

According to some predictions, the world population will reach 7 billion on Monday, February 6, 2012.  How did we get here?

Considering some of our recent conversations around civilizations and populations, I thought you all might enjoy this visualization using water as a tool.  I think it illustrates the balance between deaths and births quite effectively.
