COW EYE DISSECTIONS
The NMY students have been studying life sciences this year and as a culminating activity, each class performed dissections of cow eyes. Each class spent several classes learning about the anatomy of the human eye and how it translate energy into electrical impulses which enable use to see. To facilitate a deeper understanding, each student had the opportunity to see the different parts of the eye up close and person. Cow eyes are very similar in structure to human eyes so they provided a perfect stand in for human eyes. The students were guided through a step-by-step dissection and it made the parts of the eye much more real and tangible. For many it was the first time they had done a dissection. If you want to read more about their experience, please check out their posts on their blogs.
